Holiday Response

Before the holidays, I went christmas shopping and got into a conversation with a cashier in the Disney Store.  We spoke about how the economy is getting worse and worse and how if someone were to even work at a major company, such as Disney, they will not get paid as much as expected.  Although Disney is a giant corporation, they are still in an economic struggle where they cant pay their workers as much as they should.

Christmas itself was a very typical American holiday.  It was all about being with family.  I went to my aunt's house and we opened presents and ate a lot of food.  Christmas morning my sisters and I woke up and opened presents and then my boyfriend came over to open more gifts.  This reflects the typical American holiday where family and friends are incorporated.  Americans seem to value family very highly.  The typical American family wakes up on christmas morning, sets up the video camera and opens their presents.  They check that Santa ate the cookies and they wake up their "Mommies and Daddies."  Because I have 2 younger siblings, I keep these traditions in order to let my younger sisters have the same experience I had when I was younger.  The importance of keeping youth shines through very strongly here.  Not many, but some Americans try to preserve the youth of their children.

The Day after Christmas, I went to a Nas concert.  Nas's lyrics are extremely different from other rappers.  He tries to inform people about the way the media distorts people's visions of the world.  For example "Sly Fox."  The song is written to reflect the way Fox news distorts the news and is extremely biased.  He tries to influence his fans to live above media influence and to be your own person.  Another interesting thing about the Nas concert was the variety of people that were there.  The people were extremely diverse and came from different financial backgrounds and even states.  We really see how America is extremely diverse and cultured and how everyone can be brought together by music.
